OMG People seriously suck

I read this this morning. I have to say I hope these people rot in hell. OMG that poor child. I understand a child should be punished for lying. I have kids of my own, who are punished for lying. But how in the name of all that is holy do you make a child run for 3 hours?? Because they lied about eating a candy bar??

2 charged in death of Ala girl forced to run

ATTALLA, Ala. (AP) — Roger Simpson said he looked down the road and saw a little girl running outside her home but didn't give it another thought. Police, however, said the man witnessed a murder in progress.
Authorities say 9-year-old Savannah Hardin died after being forced to run for three hours as punishment for having lied to her grandmother about eating candy bars. Severely dehydrated, the girl had a seizure and died days later. Now, her grandmother and stepmother who police say meted out the punishment were taken to jail Wednesday and face murder charges.
Witnesses told deputies Savannah was told to run and not allowed to stop for three hours on Friday, an Etowah County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said. The girl's stepmother, 27-year-old Jessica Mae Hardin, called police at 6:45 p.m., telling them Savannah was having a seizure and was unresponsive.
Simpson said he saw a little girl running at around 4 p.m., but didn't see anybody chasing or coercing her.
"I saw her running down there, that's what I told the detectives," Simpson said from his home on a hill overlooking the Hardins. "But I don't see how that would kill her."
Authorities are still trying to determine whether Savannah was forced to run by physical coercion or by verbal commands. Deputies were told the girl was made to run after lying to her grandmother, 46-year-old Joyce Hardin Garrard, about having eaten the candy, sheriff's office spokeswoman Natalie Barton said.
Savannah Hardin died Monday at Children's Hospital in Birmingham, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. The sheriff's release said an autopsy report showed the girl was extremely dehydrated and had a very low sodium level. A state pathologist ruled it a homicide.
The sheriff's office received calls from concerned citizens who witnessed the girl running. No other details were released, but an official with the local volunteer fire department said rescuers thought something seemed odd when they responded to a call about the child.
"One of the ones who were down there said he didn't feel like everything was right," said Ruby Ward, vice president of the Mountainboro Volunteer Fire Department.
Gail Denny and her husband Phil, live just up a dirt road from the home. They've known the family since they moved to the area in northeastern Alabama seven years ago.
The couple said they were used to seeing Savannah and other neighborhood children out waiting on the school bus in the morning. Gail Denny said her grandson had a crush on Savannah.
"My grandson asked her to be his girlfriend on Valentine's Day, and she said 'yes,'" she said before dissolving into tears. She left a candle and stuffed animal outside the girl's home Wednesday night, saying a prayer as she paused beside the road.
The trailer where Savannah lived was surrounded by a wooden fence, playground equipment and toys. Neighbors say they never saw children playing in the yard.
They told The Associated Press that Garrard owned a lot of property along the road and much of her family lived in homes on that property.
"It seems like a very happy extended family around here," Denny said. "There are mothers, grandmothers, kids. It sounds like a punishment that got out of hand."
Garrard and Jessica Mae Hardin are being held in the Etowah County Detention Center, each on a $500,000 cash bond.
Court records show that Robert Hardin filed for divorce in August of 2010. In his complaint, he asserted his wife was bi-polar and had alcoholic tendencies. He accused her previously of having run off with the couple's own child. In her response, Jessica denied all of Robert's allegations.
Five months after filing for divorce, the two asked a judge to dismiss their case.
Savannah Hardin was a third-grader at Carlisle Elementary School. Superintendent Alan Cosby said her desk had been turned into a makeshift memorial where her classmates could leave notes and mementos. He said counselors and social workers were made available for students.
"This is obviously a very tragic, devastating, heartbreaking situation," Cosby said. "Nothing like this has ever happened before."

Life at home

We went and signed Jean'-Luc up for baseball tonight. It's nice to see him taking an interest in something. He's excited about playing.
We're thinking about signing Chase up for Wee Ball next month. It's for kids who are still too little for T-Ball. We'll see what happens. I know Jean'-Luc is probably going to have practice at least 2 nights a week, plus games. Going to make for an interesting schedule around here.
They'll call sometime in the next few days I guess to let us know what team he'll be on. School pictures are tomorrow.

Looking forward to a quiet Sunday at home.

I am looking forward to spending a nice, quiet Sunday at home with my hubby and kiddos. I still feel like crap after having that tooth pulled Thursday. Plus I still have that dog gone cough. I seriously need to figure out how to make it leave. I've coughed my way into a migraine. I hate when that happens. I hate being sick. I always have. It seems like now it's worse. Seems like the older I get, the longer it takes me to recover. Having a tooth pulled on top of it was probably not the smartest move I've ever made, but the pain was to the point of unbearable. Still have pain, but it's a different kind of pain. I know the pain from having it pulled will be gone in the next day or so. As long as I remember not to chew on that side.

School is out Monday so I have to figure out how to entertain Jean'-Luc all day. I think I'll let him and Chase play on the Wii. It worked for me for most of today. I love seeing them get along. Makes life easier on me.

Random thoughts and other musings.

I am sitting here writing this while the feeling slowly creeps back into my face. I had a tooth pulled this morning. I was extremely impressed with my dentist. He made sure I was comfortable, and it took him almost no time to get the tooth out. Always a plus in my book. I have had more than one tooth extracted that didn't want to leave my mouth. Those are the worst. Those are also the worst to heal from. I am keeping my fingers crossed that since it didn't really put up a terrible fight, it will heal quickly.

I think Chase is still trying  to get over his cold. It's 12:00 pm and he's still asleep. I know with him being sick rest and sleep is the best thing for him. I told Jerry I'm just going to let him sleep until he wakes up. He should be in a good mood when that finally happens. I know I'm still trying to recover from my bout with that cold. Most of my symptoms are gone with the exception of this lingering nasty cough. I hate coughing.

I seriously need to spend more time on my blog. It seems like I do good for a bit, then I let it fall to the wayside. I don't like that. I created this blog to keep track of everything. Seems like more often than not I don't blog, but I do write religiously in my paper journal. Go figure. Definitely something I need to work on.

Jean'-Luc is showing steady improvement with his school work. Occasionally it's a fight to get him to do his homework, but at least his grades are showing the effort that is being made. His English teacher is amazing. I really like her a lot. His packet (grammar, spelling, and reading worksheets for the week) accidentally got thrown away, by him, before his teacher saw it. Instead of sending him to the office for an incomplete assignment like she could have, she sent it home with him to be redone. I appreciate that more than she will ever know, I know she didn't have to give him the second chance. Luckily she told me on the phone when we talked last week that since she realizes Jerry and I are caring, involved parents she will help us get him on track anyway she can. So far she has kept her word.

I am married  to such an amazing man. Even after 8 years together the little things he does for me continues to surprise me. I know that's a good thing. I am reminded on a daily basis what a lucky lady I am. I thank the dear Lord everyday that he made that awesome man all mine. I look forward to us spending many, many, many more years together. I can't wait to see what happens. The ride so far has been amazing, and it just keeps getting better. Even though I didn't think it was possible I love him more with every passing day. He completes me in ways I never could have imagined.

Wow this post is longer than I would have believed. I guess that's why I don't blog on pain meds. LOL. More later from this Funny Farm that is our life.

Another one bites the dust

The music world, and Hollywood lost another great today. Whitney Houston was found dead at the Beverly Hills Hilton. She was 48 years old. Police are investigating. My heart goes out to her family, friends, and fans. She will be greatly missed, and may she R.I.P.

Happy Birthday to Me

Yesterday (2-10) was my 32nd birthday. I had a fabulous day. My husband bought me a new Citizen watch, I love it. He got me a Cookie Cake with purple (fave color) icing. I love that he actually takes the time to put thought into my present.
Also in other happy news I received word that I have been picked to participate in another Sample Share by Crowdtap. This one is for Old Navy. I am so very excited to have been chosen for this opportunity. Pictures to follow after I go shopping. =)
Jean'-Luc got progress reports on Thursday. I am happy to report 1 A (Science), 2 B's (Social Studies & English), and 1 C (Math). The C in Math is up from a D so we are very proud of the hard work he has put in.
 My gorgeous cake.

 My very special watch.
