Today

Today would have been my step-dad's birthday. He's been gone 18 months now, and I still find it hard to believe. I still call my mom's house and expect him to answer the phone.

Dad, We love you and miss you!!!!!

Blog Buttons

I am sure all of my lovely readers have noticed all of the blog buttons I have on my blog. I have decided that if I follow the blog, I am going to add the button to my page. If your button is not there yet it will be, trying to get them all on there is time consuming.

Also if someone could leave me a comment and tell me how to make the buttons I would greatly appreciate it.

Sitting here!

I am currently sitting on the couch, with my foot propped on the coffee table. Purple is never a good color for body parts, a person would think that by my age I would know this and avoid it. Not me. I fell going down the stairs at my in-laws yesterday and twisted my ankle. So now my lovely toddler things he can destroy the house, and for the moment I have to confess I'm letting him. Walking is excruciating! On a different note, we traded one of the vehicles last night. So while we still have 3 vehicles, at least one of them is new to us. Let's see how long that lasts. My husband is known to get bored easy with cars.

Nasty weather

After checking the weather it has come to my attention that we are under a Severe Heat Advisory for this afternoon. With the heat index they expect temperatures to be over 110. Needless to say the little one and I will be spending the afternoon indoors. Yesterday my loving husband spent part of his day off hanging insulated curtains, to try and keep it cooler in the house. For the moment it seems to be working. It's 12:30 and is still 70 in the house. This is a definite improvement. Munchkin and I have already made our trip to the store. Now we plan on spending the rest of the day in the house and out of the heat.

School

One year ago I started school at University of Phoenix. Now I have 36 credits towards my Associate's Degree in Business Management. I talked to my Academic Advisor last week who told me "Guess what? You'll have your degree in March.". To me this is fabulous news. I have busted my butt to accomplish what I have. I have maintained a pretty good GPA. I have done this while taking care of my very loving, very supportive, wonderful husband, and my wonderful son. My life just keeps getting better.

I would like to take this time to Thank my husband for being so supportive. In the last year I have bounced more assignments off him than I am sure he would care to admit. Whenever I am stuck with an idea for a project, he always offers suggestions. I could not have done this without his help. I am married to an amazing man, and I am very fortunate that he supports me in everything I undertake. I love him with all my heart, and I am so thankful that he's mine!

Just randomness

So for my followers. Who are you? How did you find my blog? I love comments so please feel free to leave me some.

Not me Monday!

Mckmama- Not Me Monday

This week has been a pretty good one actually. There wasn't much that I didn't do, but there were a couple.

I didn't talk my darling hubby into keeping Chase so I could grocery shop in peace Not Me.

And I didn't make Chase take a nap Saturday just so I could take one too, Not Me.

So come on, open up, tell us what you didn't do this week.

Problem solved

I have finally figured out how to read after I lay the monster down. Normally he falls asleep on the love seat in the living room, then he gets moved to his bed, in his room. When he falls asleep in the living room, that means I have to turn the light off. This presents a problem when I want to read, so I downloaded a free e-reader to my laptop. This way I can read and not bother anyone while I do so. I think for Christmas I want a Nook. My mom got one and she loves it.

Why I love my son's Pediatrician

This morning I called the pediatrician's office to schedule an appointment. I was told to be there Monday at 9 a.m. The receptionist asked if he was sick, and I explained that while he was not sick he had been pulling on one of his ears. I also needed to talk to the pediatrician about the referral back to the Urologist for the surgery on the left side. At 3:15 this afternoon the phone rings. His pediatrician called to make sure everything was ok with him, and when I explained about his ear, I was told to go ahead and bring him in today. Come to find out Mommy was right again and the munchkin has an ear infection. So he's on antibiotics for the next 10 days. Any other pediatrician I have ever dealt with does not take the time to call their patients themselves. As long as we live in this area I will not use another pediatrician.

Life with a toddler

I always thought that putting whatever happened to be in your hand down, BEFORE you rubbed your eyes was just something that people knew. As usual my toddler proved to me this is NOT the case. For reasons known only to him he decided he needed to rub his right eye, with a car in his hand. Luckily he managed to not scratch his eye. Just scratched right underneath it, giving himself a nifty shiner.

As for me, at the moment I am looking outside at sunshine. Now let's see if it manages to last all day. I am so not holding my breath at this point. The weather looked an awful lot like this yesterday, then it rained a bit. After that the sun came back out somewhat. At one point yesterday evening I was seriously considering going to hide in the bathtub with the munchkin. Lots of rain, high winds. Luckily the only damage was ANOTHER limb out of the tree in out front yard. This takes the number of limbs lost to 2 in a weeks, and around 5 since we moved in last month.

Deadliest Catch

I am getting everything done now to prepare for tonights Deadliest Catch. Tonight is the night we bid goodbye to Captain Phil Harris. Phil died February 9,2010 from complications following a stroke. Being the type of person he was, Phil agreed for the cameras from The Discovery  Channel to continue filming. He said basically that no matter the outcome the fans deserved to see the end of the story. My heart continues to go out to his boys Jake and Josh. I know this episode is going to make me cry. I have the last two weeks following the story. The show will not be the same without him.

RIP Captain Phil Harris

Not me Monday!

Mckmama- Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to < target="_blank" href="http://www.mycharmingkids.net">her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This weekend I DID NOT laugh hysterically while my son threw a temper tantrum about having to take his nap. Not me.
I also did not find it funny when he peed in the floor, beside the toilet instead of in the toilet. Not me.
Just because we are potty training is no reason to laugh about it. That would be gross. So what have you not done?

Tylenol Issues Another Recall

This time they are recalling Children's MeltAways Ages 2-6.

I really wish they would get this stuff straightened out. I have a toddler. This means occasionally I will need some type of pain/fever relief for the child. Right now there are no products of this type available on the shelves because of all of the recalls. As parents what are we supposed to do for our children?

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

I am enjoying something today that I normally don't get to enjoy. My wonderful husband home during the day, on a Wednesday. For those who don't know us. He works 12 hour days, 6 days a week most of the time. This week he actually decided to take advantage of his day off. I am definitely loving it.

Pet Peeves

I belong to a popular parenting website. I have noticed that some of these women have nothing better to do all day long then bash the women who choose to do things differently than they do. Personally I say whatever works for your kids. I have 3 and let me tell you each one of them are as different as night and day. There are certain things that are honestly none of anyone else's business and here is my list.

1) ERF (Extended Rear Facing)- If someone wants to keep their child turned backwards in their car seat until they graduate from college then so be it. Am I going to do the same? Nope, not hardly. My kids were all turned forward facing just as soon as it was legal. Most especially the little one. Until someone has driven 10+ hours to see their dying parent, with a screaming baby in the backseat, I don't want to hear their crap. Just as soon as we turned his car seat around, when he hit 1, it was like a completely different child.
2) BF/FF - Breastfeeding/Formula Feeding. As long as the child is eating who cares. Life happens, plans change. There are people who have medical issues who can't breastfeed. There are people who end up stressed to the point their milk dries up. Before jumping on someone for not breastfeeding, maybe they should know the story first. Just sayin'.
3) Circumcision - What anyone does with their child's private parts is their business! Honestly this is no one else's business. People do it for religious reasons, and many other different things. If you don't agree with it, DON'T do it. Just don't try and cram your opinion down someone else's throat.
4) Vaccinations- All my kids are fully vaccinated. As their mother, that is my choice. If other people don't want to vaccinate their child more power to them.

I'm sure there is something I am missing. If I think of more I will create another post for them.

Things I have learned since becoming a mom.

Different things I have learned from being a mom.
1) The brand of diapers that will hold twice their weight at night, will leak after a teaspoon of liquid when you are out of diapers and waiting for more to get there.
2) Kids will eat everything you don't want them to, and nothing you do.
3) Chocolate milk is better for a toddler then no milk.
4) Bugs and reptiles that make mommy scream like a girl are fun.
5) The vacuum cleaner is evil. At least according to the small boy child that lives in my house. Apparently potty training is also evil.
6) Potty training is only evil when mommy is actually prepared for it. As long as mom has no pull-ups, no step-stool, or any of these neat things, potty training is great fun.
7) Important papers will vanish if there is a toddler in residence. Whether he eats them, flushes them, or just throws them in the garbage I will never know. All I know is they disappear right when I need them.

I'm sure there are more to add, and as I think of them I will list them. Please feel free to leave your own in the comments.

Being random

I hope all of my readers had a great Fourth of July. Ours was interesting to say the least. Living next to and across from racetracks tends to be slightly (read: very) noisy. Saturday night the dirt track had a race, and a very good firework display. It went on for a good 15 minutes and was loud enough to shake the house. Sunday night the drag strip decided to do their thing. There were people everywhere. Parked on both sides of the street down past our house, not to mention all of the people who were actually paying to park. Jerry said next year we are going to charge people to park in the yard. Their fireworks left A LOT to be desired, frankly they sucked! Everyone was finally gone from over there at like 11:30 pm. Kinda late with a little one, plus Jerry having to be up for work. Dinner Sunday was great. There is nothing like spending a holiday with family. It doesn't matter which holiday, just any holiday.

Happy Fourth of July!!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of my readers a very happy Fourth of July. We are going out to my in-laws for a barbecue. Then we are going into town so the munchkin can see real fireworks for the first time. I am looking forward to it! Should be a wonderful time!

My baby isn't a baby anymore.

As of today I believe we are officially potty training. After coming into the kitchen naked as a jaybird this morning, we asked Chase if he wanted to try and pee in the potty, before I put his diaper on him. He got excited, and took off for the bathroom. Unfortunately his legs are still a bit too short. He did hold it, and aim like he was supposed to, and pee'd down the side of the toilet. Even though technically he did his business in the floor, he gets credit for attempting to use the toilet. Daddy is bringing home Pull-ups this evening. Hard to believe my baby is almost ready to be out of diapers. I think he's going to be the easiest of them all to potty train.

Finally!

They are finally here to fix my air conditioner. They were out here over a week ago, and told me there was a huge hole in my duct work. So they had to do a work order, and estimate, and send them to my landlord. Normally since we are buying this would be our responsibility. However, one of the reasons we agreed to buy this place is because she told Jerry the air was freezing cold. The day we moved in it got up to 90 in the house. To me this is the opposite of cold. So the a/c people came out and checked it, said everything was fine. A week later I called the landlady again, and told her something had to change. She called the a/c people who came out, and again tried to say everything was fine. So she came out to see for herself. Well after she left the a/c tech. showed back up, this was when the hole in the ducting was discovered. I made him crawl under and look, after he tested everything possible, and told us without looking that there was no way it could be the ducting. Amazingly enough it was. So now they are here to fix it. Thank goodness. It's only the beginning of July, we live in South Georgia it's going to get HOT here in the next couple of months.
